Lenses First Samyang 12mm shots

  1. There was a reason for buying the Samyang 12mm this week. A rare weekend away without the kids. Some interesting shots to be had...

First off, a fountain. Many of these locally...

    Next, a statue...

In a museum, a thing with nice lighting (I thought)...

Mrs. Ade playing the local version of "Shard, what Shard", her favourite game in London...

    A nice ceiling...

    That staircase...

    Exit through the gift shop...

    Another fountain...

All these are jpegs processed in VSCO cam on my phone so I am sure they could be better technically. I have also mostly been not focusing, just leaving near infinity for laziness, so if something is blurry it is probably me rather than the lens being not sharp. I won't be able to tell until I get home to a big monitor.

    Great fun to use though!

  2. Home now. I have loaded up the images onto my computer, applying the usual import sharpening for that camera (whatever the lens). They look pretty good for the price. Plenty sharp in most places except the corners. Barrel distortion is a bit of an issue so I will see if I can correct that.

I haven't had time to process them yet and likely won't for a few days, at least not in bulk.

Does anyone have any tips for correcting distortions in either Lr or Ps?

  3. It's pretty easy in LR, although I rarely do it, just down the bottom of the develop module. No idea in PS, I'm an Elephants user anyway, and I have no idea how to in that thing.

  4. Thanks. I'll try that in Lr then.

  5. For Photoshop you can correct distortion via the Adobe camera raw settings though it's a manual process but you can save it as a preset once you get it done once.

In Photoshop, go to filter>Adobe camera Raw.
Look at the icons on the right, one is a picture of a lens stack, this is colour correction and the camera icon is for distortion. Maybe you can look online to see if someone else has made a preset for this lens?

  6. I've just had a play with the lens profiles in Lr. They work really well! There are no Samyang profiles I can find on the webs but canny folk use the Zeiss Touit 12mm profile and customise from there. That coupled with the Vertical slider in the manual tab of lens corrections is quite cool. I will process a file and then show a before and after.
