Episode 16 Questions: Back Button Focus

Discussion in 'Pixelated Photographer Podcast' started by Adam, Oct 10, 2012.

  1. The topic for the next podcast (episode 16) will be Back Button Focus... if you have any questions or comments you would like answered in the next show post them here and we will do the best we can to answer them. Thanks!
  2. Always used it and find it bloody annoying using someone else's camera. In fact, I forget what the advantages of the old dual action shutter release were!

On my Canon 50d I've programmed the <AF-ON> AF start button, and on my 5d2 it's the AE Lock Button. Which can be confusing when you forget which camera you're using - tried to programme the same geographical (so to speak) button, but no joy yet.
  3. Why isn't it the default method of focusing on all dslr's? It should be.
  4. I'm not sure, perhaps nothing more than tradition. I've been trying to think of arguments against BBF, but nothing springs to mind. Yes, it can take a bit of getting used to but certainly worth the effort.
  5. Just focus manually like proper men do. Autofocus is for wimps.

    And to be less flippant:

    Use hyperfocal focusing.

    (Like proper men do. Men!)
    moroseduck likes this.
  6. I'm sorry, but if you aren't zone focusing then this is just bullshit.
  7. This whole reliance on focusing is unhealthy and unecessary. If you need to focus the camera by any means then you've already failed as a photographer. You'll be taking the bloody lens caps off next.
