Cheap Shots Challenge ROUND 2: Animals/Wildlife

  1. IT'S ON BABY!

This is the place to share pictures taken with your Cheap Shots Challenge cameras of Animals and Wildlife over the next month or two, and if you're just getting involved for the first time, share pictures of your lovely bargain basement cameras as well!

Successes and failures, covers of Nat Geo and photo's only a mother could love, it's all welcome here.

  2. Is the idea to only use one roll of film for this cheap ass challenge? I've gone and done a roll of tri-x in my mighty minolta but want to continue in a pursuit for better shots.

  3. I was hoping to stretch the rules a little by using the end of one roll and the beginning of another, since I was still working through the 70+ shots that I get out of each roll on my Pen half-frame...

  4. Sold, as master of the show notes I'm taking that as a green light.
Will post the first results shortly..

  5. I'm I the game. Went out with my kids today and the place we went has a petting farm. Like shooting fish in a barrel (which would also work for this challenge).

I definitely got chickens, goats, a Shetland pony, possibly a pig. I tried for the alpacas but they were too far away for my little camera.

  6. Yay! I only put the thread up this morning and @Davis has only gone and put a cracking shot up already. I Love You Guys! @billowens I know you went to a farm sanctuary last week so I'm expecting good things, and @Ade I'm well impressed that you're already on this. Who would have thought that we were all budding wildlife photographers (pending results obvs).

  8. My Pen pictures are still in the can; hoped to have time to soup them but had to work late, so it will be tomorrow night...

  9. Hi! I'm Maddy, Bill Owens' daughter (lucky me!). I'm shooting the cheap shots challenge with a Trip 35. My dad and I went to Farm Sanctuary and both brought our cheap shots cameras. We both souped our film at home and scanned it. Mine are lacking in contrast, some at least, but I think they turned out pretty nice! The rest are up on the Sunny 16 podcast Flickr page. :)

  10. Great shots Maddy! And welcome to the forums.
I like that chicken but I really love the goat on the Flickr set.
The contrast doesn't seem too bad, which film did you use? As @billowens has good taste in souping I'm guessing it was stand developed in Rodinal?

  11. I used 400 speed T-Max film, first time using it, stand developed in Rodinal, our go-to developer. It came out slightly purple, which was odd, but didn't effect the pictures.

  12. Welcome to the forums @Maddy! Been enjoying your photo's for a while now and it's great to see you here. Love the chicken and the goat shots - I'd say they look good enough to eat, but as a vegetarian myself I'd be talking out of my butt :) Mind you, Goats milk cheese alone is enough of a reason for me to never be a vegan ;)

  13. That moment when you realise that the film you've been shooting is quite expired...and hasn't held up well. Oh boy.

  14. Ooof. Ok, here's the best of a very bad, mostly unviewable bunch. What. A. Cock up. Thank crunchy the scanner could pull something out of the terrible negs. This kind of thing never happened before Trump became President. Ok, that's not true, but I definitely think this is his fault.

  15. @moroseduck I like em! I shouted "green jelly" looking at the emu, which was nice.

  16. @moroseduck I know that's not what you wanted, but I quite like them. So far my expired film adventures have been fairly tame, just some sprocket hole streaking on the old 5302, but I expect sooner or later I'll get a roll that looks like this, and that's part of the charm!

  18. Wow, Ade, that is an enormous dog!
